The Erroneous Position of the Dean Burgon Society on Inspiration of the KJB

The Dean Burgon Society, headed by Dr. D. A. Waite, celebrated the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible in Collingswood, NJ this week. It has been their position from the their founding King James Bible cannot be said to be inspired. However, this year’s conference contained a couple of topics that directly addressed this controversial issue. The titles were: “Dangers of the Inspired KJB Position”, “KJB-Inspired or Translated Words?”, and “Does the KJB Replace the Hebrew and the Greek?” Now admittedly the latter topic does not squarely fit into the category of a treatise against using the term inspired when referring to the KJB. Nevertheless, Dr. Waite addressed the same issue with some very strong words in part of the message, calling the KJB ‘inferior’ to the Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic texts of the Bible. There were also exchanges with visitors over the issue in the Q & A sessions, and a couple of other speakers made it a point to bring it up.

RV’60′ers Buffalo’ed!

The revisers of the Reina-Valera 1960 would have us to believe that it was the greatest and most scholarly effort to update the verbage of the old Spanish Bible. But, the evidence suggests that those who have accepted that summary have been buffalo’ed!

One of the ‘great’ updates in the RV’60 is the changing of the word ‘unicorn’ for the word ‘buffalo’. This is supposed to be a more accurate and up to date version of the Hebrew word ‘reh-ame’ (ראם). This change was viewed necessary because “we all know that the King James uses a mythical creature, the unicorn, to describe God, and this can only further ignorance and superstition on the part of its readers.”

The problem is, unicorns really do exist in the real world, and they are a better illustration of God’s power than the búfalo.

A key verse in the debate is Job 39:10.

Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? (Job 39:10)

Imagine if the word ‘unicorn’ was changed to ‘búfalo’ in your KJV. Would it make sense? In Asia buffalos are used to plow. They are hitched to plows to ‘harrow’ valleys. I offer as proof this picture. The answers to the questions that God asks should be ‘NO’. But, the Reina-Valera 1960 asks two questions that can definitely be answered ‘YES’, and therefore teaches that man is similar to God in his power. The point of the passage is to prove that man has his limits, and there are things only God can do. The RV’60 changes the meaning of the passage completely.

For this reason we insist that the proper translation is ‘unicorn’, and the word ‘unicorn’ is a very understandable and appropriate word. While it is true that the word ‘unicorn’ is used in refernece to a mythical creature in some circles, it is also used in a scientific sense to refer to a specific type of rhinocerous.

The Indian Rhinoceros or the Great One-horned Rhinoceros or the Asian One-horned Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) is a large mammal primarily found in north-eastern India and Nepal. It is confined to the tall grasslands and forests in the foothills of the Himalayas. [Wikipedia.com]

P. Obama’s Beer Summit

beer_with_obama_chappatteTwo simple verses come to mind…

Wine [is] a mocker, strong drink [is] raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. (Proverbs 20:1)

[It is] not for kings, O Lemuel, [it is] not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: (Proverbs 31:4)

What began, I believe, as Freudian slip, will turn into an Achilles heal. Continue reading ‘P. Obama’s Beer Summit’

ARE KING JAMES BIBLE BELIEVERS WHO USE AND SUPPORT THE 1960 SPANISH BIBLE TRUE KING JAMES BIBLE BELIEVERS?

By Missionary Mike Wilps

The answer can be given in two ways.

1. No. They are not King James Bible-believers by conviction.  They only adopted someone else’s conviction. They say that they are 100% in support of the Textus Receptus for the New Testament and the Masoretic Text for the Old, but they support foreign Bibles that have corrupt critical text readings.

2. Yes. They are true Bible-believers but they really do not understand the issue.  Therefore they do not see the need to investigate the matter.

It seems the political left has no shame, no self respect, no character, and no consistent principles. You want proof? Easy. Recently Tim Geithner was approved by the U.S. Senate to be the Secretary of the Treasury. Senator Collins had the courage to vote against him saying, “I can’t vote for a tax cheat.” Hurray for her. Tim had refused to pay his taxes until he was tapped by President Obama to become the enforcer of U.S. tax laws! He did not spend any time in prison. The loonies have taken over the asylum.

tpharr This kid is getting it right! Proverbs says, “…the borrower is servant to the lender.” Our government is putting this country into slavery to the national debt. I thought he wasn’t a racist! Oh yeah, he wants slavery for EVERY American!

Breaker’s Broken Booklet

I was recently given a copy of the 1602 Purified Bible along with a copy of Robert Breaker’s attack on the Reina-Valera-Gómez Bible (RVG). It has been interesting to watch how these two groups react toward each other. They both have the same basic goal, the purification of the Spanish Bible. But, do they have the same tactics and spirit? Do the have the same intellectual honesty and discipline? These are great questions. Therefore, I thought it my duty to present Breaker’s thoughts and refute many of them. I have not seen, nor think I will ever see an attack by the RVG people against the 1602 Purified. However, there is no mistaking this article by Breaker as an attack on the RVG. Let’s look at a few of his comments…

The Scientific Proof of Intelligent Design

Did you not hear?! There is now very convincing proof that God created the universe! And, what it more this is proven in thousands of laboratories across the world!

Think about it. When is there more scientific discovery in a laboratory, while the scientists are there or when they are at home asleep in their beds? Of course, the answer is while the supposedly intelligent scientists are in their laboratories. So, every night in many thousands of laboratories across the world the theory of Continue reading ‘The Scientific Proof of Intelligent Design’

Jesus is God

I had an epiphany today. I was just walking along and the idea hit me… The Jehovah’s Witnesses claim that Jesus cannot be God because he is the Son of God. Well, do the JW’s believe that Jesus was man? I mean if Matthew 9:6, to give one example, says that he is the Son of man, then by their logic he is the Son of man and not man. Does that make any sense? Well, not much else of what they believe does either.

But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. (Mat 9:6)

The Problematic Spanish Bible

We just finished our first Bible conference ever hosted by the Bible Baptist Church of Labranza. It was a great time! The greatest thing about it was the great and challenging theme that was presented. In practically every systematic theology curriculum or book the first topic or doctrine is bibliology. That is because without a Bible there is really no sense in talking about theology. Without a Bible we can share dreams and visions, opinions and philosphies, but we will always wind up talking about what man says about God; not what God says about man. The Bible is absolutely necessary. And, the inspiration and preservation are also absolutely necessary to be able to believe that the Bible is the Word of God. So, we tackled those themes and more in the conference. Continue reading ‘The Problematic Spanish Bible’
